{"id":241,"date":"2013-06-22T19:13:32","date_gmt":"2013-06-22T19:13:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.geofabrik.de\/?p=241"},"modified":"2013-06-22T19:13:32","modified_gmt":"2013-06-22T19:13:32","slug":"download-server-updates-usacanada-shape-files","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.geofabrik.de\/index.php\/2013\/06\/22\/download-server-updates-usacanada-shape-files\/","title":{"rendered":"Download Server Updates, USA\/Canada Shape Files"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;ve overhauled the download server <a href=\"http:\/\/download.geofabrik.de\">(download.geofabrik.de)<\/a> a couple months ago but never really wrote anything on our blog so, let me quickly mention that for a few months now we do not only have a nicer user interface with overview maps and MD5 sums, but we also have <strong>selected older versions<\/strong> (usually, data from the past couple of days plus the 1st of each month for the current year) for every extract, as well as <strong>incremental updates<\/strong> (diff files). These updates allow you, for example, keep a country extract current by downloading only a fraction of the full file every day, or update an osm2pgsql database that you run with Europe only.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/download.geofabrik.de\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.geofabrik.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/download-1.png\" alt=\"\" title=\"download server screenshot\" width=\"480\" height=\"468\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-248\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.geofabrik.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/download-1.png 480w, https:\/\/blog.geofabrik.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/download-1-300x293.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last weekend we added free daily shape files for Canada&#8217;s provinces\/territories, and from today we&#8217;ll also be serving <strong>free daily shape files for all US states.<\/strong> (Larger shape files, e.g. for all of Canada, all of the US, other continents, or the whole world, as well as shape files with more detail or tailored to a specific use case, are made to order for a fee &#8211; see <a href=\"http:\/\/www.geofabrik.de\/data\/shapefiles.html\">http:\/\/www.geofabrik.de\/data\/shapefiles.html).<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Would you like to see me explaining the download server (and the technology behind it) in a 20 minute video?
